Right after I posted the blog about a tool I found to clear the Recent Projects list in Visual Studio, Maarten van Stam pointed me to a much better tool than that, MRU Cleaner from Bob DeRosa.

It took me some time to figure out what version to use, in the end got it from here: http://www.csharper.net/blog/visual_studio_2008_add_in_compatibility.aspx

Installation is very straightforward, and it will just add a new menu item in the file menu of Visual Studio:

Just select the “Clear Recent Items” menu item, and you will see this popup:

This nice tool not only lets you manage recent projects, but also recent files. And it can relaunch VS2008 for you, saving you from the trouble doing that yourself….

Thanks Bob for a great tool! (I wished I had found this sooner!)

Very cool add-in and I am now getting rid of the external application I have been using to do the same thing. If you have VS2005 and VS2008 installed download the version previous to this (1.0.5) and install it first and then install the VS2008 one. Install them both to the same directory. This makes sure that the add-in is registered with both IDE's and the correcte project list recent files list is correct for each version.
